A healer wanders along the N2. Between sunset and sunrise she listens to the stories of the dead and those that have disappeared along the road trying to help them find peace. She has a helper, Khehle, who also has a wound that he needs to heal. Khehle searches constantly amongst the living and the dead for his bride that never arrived at the wedding. Every night, the healer and her helper, listen to the needs of the dead. Tonight there is a story of a woman who has lost her child; a woman who waits for a husband that never comes home and a man who cannot accept that he is dead. In a moment of calm, the healer and Khelhe break bread together in the middle of the night, before they are forced to continue their task. Others ask their help: spirit children looking for their parents’ graves to lay down with them and an initiate who is still waiting to be fetched home and buried in the proper way. The healer is overcome by the losses and strains of her task. She is comforted by her helper. She, in turn, helps him to let go of his painful loss. Dawn comes and the spirits leave.
