NOMVULA – The Girl of Rain

Date/Time

Venue: Magnet Theatre

Based on the success of TREE/BOOM/UMTHI  aimed at the same age group, Magnet Theatre has created another Early Childhood production to be performed during December at its venue in Observatory, Cape Town. “NOMVULA” The Girl of the Rain, speaks to an audience of very young children which receives little theatre, entertaining them whilst focusing on age appropriate educational themes: the relationship between humans and nature. “NOMVULA” The Girl of the Rain is specifically aimed at 4 – 9 year old children. It tells the story of a young girl who loves water, and how actions by humans cause clouds to be grumpy, the earth to cry and the wind to stop talking. In essence it is about respect and taking care of nature.

The production is directed by Magnet graduate and emerging director, Thando Doni. The cast is made up of the four Extended Public Works Programme interns who joined Magnet in August 2014. All four are also Magnet Theatre graduates and the aim of their internship is to extend their training even further, giving experience over a wide range of theatre genres.
